Pink Christmas is on

Ken has done a pitch inspection, and has decided that the Pink Christmas party can go ahead on Saturday 8th December.

There are a couple of rules:

1. Please do not park on the grass, as you may not get stuck
2. Please bring your own drinking water, as the bore hole is compromised

AGM Reminder

All members are reminded that the 2012 AGM will be held this week on Thursday 6 December, at Berkshire County Sports Club, Sonning Lane, Sonning, RG46ST. It’s just off the A4 going out of Reading, next to Reading Hockey Club, and opposite Blue Coat School.

See “forthcoming events” below for details.

Frostbite 2 – non racing report

Dave, Monica and Jerry used Dave’s inflatable – they were exhausted pumping it up, before they got going. Andy, with his wading stick decided to go by the road – water still waist deep in places – and managed to fall into the gully on the bridge where the water was over his head…poor guy, he was very cold and very wet by the time he got to the club house!!!

In the meantime, Dave and Jerry had a leisurely paddle across the lake admiring the views with Monica sat in  the dinghy…….some mention was made of the African Queen!!!

They moored up to the bottom of the club house and inspected the inside, still dry fortunately. But as a precaution against the water rising again, they emptied all the lower cupboards, put fridges, freezers, chairs etc all up on the tables.

The good news is that the water has subsided considerably, with only some 6″ of water in the red shed and thanks to Richard, Brian and Louise’s efforts on Saturday, everything was up on tressle tables and many of the floating boats secured. Thanks guys!!!

But the clubhouse is totally surrounded with water and only a bit of grass around the ‘Pirates’ meeting place log visible, with the depth of water through out the dinghy park ranging from knee to waist deep.

The SOOD Paul arrived to join two of his assistants, Monica and Andy, who were already there, but it was decided not to have a race!!!!!
Steve joined the gang and they all had coffee and admired the view.”…..water, water, everywhere and not a drop to drink…”

They all went back along the road, the guys pulling the dinghy with her ‘lady ship’ sitting in the bow again – though she had to get out several times where the water level had dropped, but mostly it is still knee to thigh deep along the whole road.

Watch this space for details of THE BIG CLEAN UP, WHEN ALL HANDS ON DECK WILL DEFINITELY BE NEEDED….and further info, re Pink Xmas scheduled for next w/end……?????

The Jolly Sailor only got two photos of the gang, complaining that the camera packed up in the cold.  Now if only someone had got a picture of something other than 3 shifty looking blokes with a rubber inflatable…

Commodore’s update – Sunday 2nd Dec

A number of members, including some of the committee, have been to the clubhouse over the weekend. The water level is about 30 cm below the peak on Thursday. The road to the clubhouses is completely flooded along its entire length. The water is about a metre at its deepest and around the outflow is particularly dangerous.

The red shed, most of the boat park, car park and old ski shed are flooded. Some boats have moved a little but not significantly. The clubhouse is dry and everything on the floor and lower cupboard shelves has been put on tables should any further rain cause levels to rise again.

There is no need to go to the club unless its really necessary and it is not recommended. Please note that the macerator is switched off so toilets and sinks should not be used until levels subside. The borehole is below water level and bottled water only should be drunk.

Please check the website and your emails in the week for further information and updates about club activities next weekend.

Many thanks, I hope to see some of you at the AGM on Thursday.

Flooding at RSC

Hi

Various people have made it to the club, tried their best to secure boats and advise that the water is now very high, almost level with the clubhouse and we have been advised may go higher. Whilst some boats had come loose, none looked like they had drifted away (no guarantees though). There are photos on the website readingsc.org.uk

Please do not try and go the club until further notice. If you do so its really at your own risk.
The work party and Sunday racing are cancelled with a further update on Saturday.

Kind regards

RSC Committee

Frostbite 1 – Non-racing report

1st Frostbite

The SOOD Karen was at the gate to greet the numerous people who arrived to sail or just ‘view’ the water! No sailing, no course to set and sadly no hot soup either!!!! just water, water and more water……

The first up the drive in their dry suits were Dave and big Steve, followed by Ian, Chris, Jon, Newton and Ross, armed with rope and stakes….some boats were not tied down!!!

Curtis smugly drove up the drive with Hugh in his huge Hummer……while Sophie opted for a wetsuit and bicycle as did Brian!
Poor Dave just came for a good sail, the wind was at least force 4, having no idea it had been raining all week!

Those that returned told the waiting voyeurs, Mark, Monica, Bill and a few others, that it was a beautiful sight and only a few of the boats beyond the red shed had water around them.
An email had gone out to the membership, but unfortunately not everyone had seen it.

PLEASE CHECK THE WEB SITE FOR FURTHER INFO RE THE STATE / HEIGHT OF THE WATER.

The next day Mark donned his dry suit and braved the water which came up to his waist…..it is still rising.
