Frostbite 3 – racing report

It was good to see the club come alive with racers after so long under water.

SOOD Eddie set a long course, using most of the lake and the forecast was for increasing wind during the race.  The choice of laser sail was key, with most choosing the radial rigs.

Monica decided to clean her boat, rather than sail – with a pink bucket of course.

True to the forecast, the wind picked up and it turned out to be an eventful race, with 7 capsizes and several collisions.  The first over were Steve and Lynne at buoy 8, but Lynne managed to keep her hair dry.  Daniel had a fight with his boat in the same place later in the race with a shy daggerboard that kept slipping back into the boat whenever Daniel swam round to use it – Daniel persevered and managed to right his boat with a very muddy sail tip.  He did it all again up the other end of the lake, but kept smiling throughout.

Karen managed to fight her way passed several of the fleet, only to lose ground again as she capsized on a windy run.  She managed to keep her hair dry also!

The Daves sedate sail was interrupted when they collided with Paul, who had come to a full stop in front of them.  Their penalty turns looked like they were dancing on ice.

Meanwhile, at the front of the race was David, who had opted for a full sail, then Chris with a radial.

A big thanks to Fran for dishing out the soup, which was welcome after an hour on the water!

Over the line was: 1st Dave, 2nd Chris, 3rd Adrian, but handicaps may change these places.

WORK PARTY and PINK FLEET XMAS
Quite a few people responded to the ‘HELP’ call – the red shed was totally emptied and with the aid of the pressure hose – poor Steve got very wet and a mini army of people, lead by Dave, with brushes and scrapers cleared away the awful brown sludge. Jon, Dave and Monica cleared the slipway – the PINKIES graciously gave up their Xmas sail to join the workers. The 2 Dave’s, one looking quite evil with a very large sledge hammer, re secured the floating pontoon, while a ‘posse’ of people found lost boats, retrieved boat covers and generally tidied the dinghy park.
While inside the clubhouse Paul, Barbara and another band of helpers were preparing a Xmas feast for 36 hungry Pinkies. The mulled wine went down a treat and the laden trestle tables were eagerly reduced to a few scraps. Then it was time for the presentations by not 1 but 2 Father Xmas!!’ The Service to the Club award, The Kimble Trophy, with bottles of wine went to Richard and Brian, another bottle went to Ken for all his power boat training, amid raucous applause – the achohol had been flowing freely…!!!
The Pink Fleet awards went to the following –

The Dolphin award went to Elaine

The Keep Bouncing back award went to Catherine

The Knot Afraid award went to Steve and Lynne

The Capsize award went to Robbie

The I can Do award went to Alice
And the Glamour Puss award went to guess who ! Monica.

Everyone thought it was a fantastic day, with Ken usual quizzes which followed on from lunch, and special thanks go to Barbara, Jan, Elaine, who all went home with poinsettias, and Paul for a fab lunch – for which he was awarded the coveted Pink Fleet Cup and last but not least, thanks to all Pinkies that turned up and made it a great day.

Pink Christmas is on

Ken has done a pitch inspection, and has decided that the Pink Christmas party can go ahead on Saturday 8th December.

There are a couple of rules:

1. Please do not park on the grass, as you may not get stuck
2. Please bring your own drinking water, as the bore hole is compromised

Frostbite 2 – non racing report

Dave, Monica and Jerry used Dave’s inflatable – they were exhausted pumping it up, before they got going. Andy, with his wading stick decided to go by the road – water still waist deep in places – and managed to fall into the gully on the bridge where the water was over his head…poor guy, he was very cold and very wet by the time he got to the club house!!!

In the meantime, Dave and Jerry had a leisurely paddle across the lake admiring the views with Monica sat in  the dinghy…….some mention was made of the African Queen!!!

They moored up to the bottom of the club house and inspected the inside, still dry fortunately. But as a precaution against the water rising again, they emptied all the lower cupboards, put fridges, freezers, chairs etc all up on the tables.

The good news is that the water has subsided considerably, with only some 6″ of water in the red shed and thanks to Richard, Brian and Louise’s efforts on Saturday, everything was up on tressle tables and many of the floating boats secured. Thanks guys!!!

But the clubhouse is totally surrounded with water and only a bit of grass around the ‘Pirates’ meeting place log visible, with the depth of water through out the dinghy park ranging from knee to waist deep.

The SOOD Paul arrived to join two of his assistants, Monica and Andy, who were already there, but it was decided not to have a race!!!!!
Steve joined the gang and they all had coffee and admired the view.”…..water, water, everywhere and not a drop to drink…”

They all went back along the road, the guys pulling the dinghy with her ‘lady ship’ sitting in the bow again – though she had to get out several times where the water level had dropped, but mostly it is still knee to thigh deep along the whole road.

Watch this space for details of THE BIG CLEAN UP, WHEN ALL HANDS ON DECK WILL DEFINITELY BE NEEDED….and further info, re Pink Xmas scheduled for next w/end……?????

The Jolly Sailor only got two photos of the gang, complaining that the camera packed up in the cold.  Now if only someone had got a picture of something other than 3 shifty looking blokes with a rubber inflatable…

Commodore’s update – Sunday 2nd Dec

A number of members, including some of the committee, have been to the clubhouse over the weekend. The water level is about 30 cm below the peak on Thursday. The road to the clubhouses is completely flooded along its entire length. The water is about a metre at its deepest and around the outflow is particularly dangerous.

The red shed, most of the boat park, car park and old ski shed are flooded. Some boats have moved a little but not significantly. The clubhouse is dry and everything on the floor and lower cupboard shelves has been put on tables should any further rain cause levels to rise again.

There is no need to go to the club unless its really necessary and it is not recommended. Please note that the macerator is switched off so toilets and sinks should not be used until levels subside. The borehole is below water level and bottled water only should be drunk.

Please check the website and your emails in the week for further information and updates about club activities next weekend.

Many thanks, I hope to see some of you at the AGM on Thursday.
