7th June Spring Series – Race 12

Strong winds for the final rounds of the spring series yesterday.

Despite the strong winds, 15 boats made it out for the start, 11 of which were lasers, who must be getting some practice in ahead of the open in a couple of weeks time.

The Comets of Karen, Chris H and Aileen were off first, with Karen getting an early lead. The rest of the fleet followed, with Hugh, Jess, Mike & Ralph all jostling for position at the front in their ILCA6’s.

Hugh got ahead of the other lasers, and had a close fight with Chris H all the way back down the lake. Meanwhile, Mike & Ralph wee trading positions on the run.

On the second lap, Karen was defending 1dt place from Hugh, whilst Ralph and Mike were still fighting. Ralph then capsized, allowing Jess & Newton both through.

At the final gun, Hugh was first, with Mike T 2nd and Karen 3rd.

In the handicap race, both Jess and Mike T had great starts, with Jess getting ahead. She was able to hold on the the lead for two laps, before losing out on the 3rd lap once the wind built.

There was a close fight between Hugh and Mike T for the lead, with it coming down to the final short leg before the finish, with Hugh finishing just a second ahead of Mike.

Jess finished 3rd. Karen was close behind, but a capsize towards the end of the race sent her back down the fleet.

On handicap, the positions remain unchanged.
