No less than 24 helms had a series or cup result that qualified them for points towards the calculation. All 24 are listed here in points order.

Frostbite 1 – 27 November

27 November 2016 –  Frost Bite 1
 
It was not a bad morning for the end of November with a NE wind about 10 mph. Mike A used an Island Start with a first beat down to X (approximately in line with No 8 but further into the middle of the lake) then 5p, 2s, 3s, 4s and back through the start line.
 
There were 15 starters and David C (Laser) led for most of the first lap, but them missed No 4 and had to turn round and go back. This let Newton & Ellen (RS200) through into the lead followed closely by Karen (Laser) then Mark (Laser) and Paul R (Aero 7). Next came a line of Lasers led by Richard S followed by James, Jon, Ralph and Dave L. Then there was a slight gap back to Chris H (Comet), Nev & Sally (Leader), Dave I, Adrian and David C all in Lasers and finally Hadey (4.7).
By the end of the 2nd lap the two leading boats had not changed position but Paul moved up one place to 3rd. Jon had gained two places to move up to 5th with Ralph moving up a place to 7th and David C had made up four places to 10th.
After three laps Newton & Ellen still led, but Paul was now up to 2nd pushing Karen down to 3rd. James had gained two places to move up to 4th and further back Nev & Sally, Dave I and Adrian all moved up a place.
At the end of the fourth and last lap Paul crossed the line in 1st place just ahead of Newton & Ellen. Jon had managed to get past James to take 4th place and Richard S moved up a place to 7th. Nev & Sally  inadvertently found reverse gear letting Dave I, Chris H and Adrian slip past them.
 
The final positions on the water were –
1st Paul R; 2nd Newton & Ellen; 3rd Karen; 4th Jon; 5th James; 6th Mark
 
On handicap Newton &Ellen will take the victory with Paul pushed down to 2nd place, Karen still 3rd, but Chris H will move up to 4th.

AGM Thursday 8th Dec 19:30 @ BCSC
A heads up that this year’s AGM and prize giving will be held on Thursday 8th Dec at the Berkshire County Sports Club starting at 19:30. Please be on the look out for the formal notice. Please come along to have your say in how the club is run and is developed. There will be an update on the club development’s plan.
 
Pink Day Xmas Party & Quiz – Saturday 10th Dec
A remainder from Monica that this year’s Pink Day Xmas Party and Quiz will be held on Saturday 10th December. Usual format, race at 11:00, lunch at 13:00 followed by the usual great fun quiz !
 
Club Email Problems
We are aware that some people have been having problems receiving club emails. The problem has been tracked down to issues on server of our software provider. Hopefully everything has been resolved how. Please let us know if you are still having problems.
 
Boat Park – Winter Preparations
As we near the winter season it is a good idea to start thinking about ensuring your boat is properly secured against high winds and flooding.

Cobley Series 9 6th November

It was bright and sunny morning but cold with a NW wind about 12 -14 mph with stronger gusts around 25 mph coming through. Jon and David C returned from their Summer migration or was it just the stronger wind that had brought them back! Julian W did the honours as SOOD and used an Island Start with a first beat to 5, then 3p, 2p, 4s, 1p and back through the start line.
 
Pursuit Race
There were 16 starters and early starter Chris (Comet) was first back through the line followed by Hadey (Radial), Newton & Ellen (RS200), Sylvia (Radial), Jon C (Laser) and David C (Laser). Richard S (Laser) came through in 7th place leading a train of Lasers, Ralph, Franz, Mike A, Rick, Rod and Mark B.  Bringing up the rear were Peter S (Byte CII) and late starters Adrian (Vago) and Paul H (Supernova) who were finding their larger sail area a bit of a handful in the conditions.
By the end of the second lap Newton & Ellen had come through to lead with Jon up to 2nd, Hadey down to 3rd and David C up to 4th. Rod had gained two places and Mike A one place with everyone else keeping station or losing ground.   
At the gun Jon had got past Newton & Ellen to take the victory. The final positions were –
1st Jon; 2nd Newton & Ellen; 3rd David C; 4th Hadey; 5th Sylvia; 6th Ralph.
 
Handicap Race
Paul H and Mark B decided to sit this one out leaving 14 starters for the second race of the day and by this time the sun had disappeared and the wind had increased slightly.
Ellen & Newton were first back through the start line closely followed by Jon and David. Ralph was next through in 4th spot just ahead of Richard S, then a slight gap back to Hadey, Mike A and Sylvia.
Rod and Franz came through in 9th and 10th  with Peter S 11th and Adrian 12th with Chris and Rick bringing up the rear.
At the end of the second lap, strong wind maestro Jon was in the lead and he kept this position to the end of the race. The boats in 2nd to 5th places maintained their positions and Mike A moved up one place to 6th, Peter S also gained a place and Rick gained two places.
The third lap saw no change in position for the first nine boats, but Rod had regained a place to 10th.
The fourth lap was the last lap and the only change in position in the whole fleet was David C taking 2nd place from Ellen & Newton.
The final positions on the water were –
1st Jon; 2nd David; 3rd Ellen & newton; 4th Ralph; 5th Richard; 6th Mike A  
 
On handicap the first five boats should remain the same, but Mike may be leapfrogged by the Radials
of Sylvia and Hadey.

Work party 5th November

More jungle clearing on the island.
Clean/sweep wooden jetty and pontoons
Rake weeds from slipways
Help build bonfire for evening fireworks
Fill potholes using remaining road planings from heap in car park
Secure club boats and make sure covers are fitted
Check tyres on club boat trolleys are inflated

Cobley Series and November Cup

Apologies to Rhys who was reported as retiring in the Cobley Series Handicap Race 7, he did actually finish and did well to stay out in the tricky conditions.
Next Sunday, 6th November, will be the Cobley Series 9 Races starting at 10.30 as usual, but the following Sunday, 13th November, will be the November Cup Race starting at 11.00
