17th August – Summer Series Race 10

20 boats made it out in force 2/3 winds for the latest rounds of the Summer Series.

A North-Easterly wind marked the start of the pursuit race, with the Comets of Aileen, Chris & Sally setting off first, followed by the rest of the fleet. The the temperamental wind meant several boats lost out in some light patches. The Comets were first to the windward mark, followed closely by Newton (Solo) & Emily (ILCA6).

The Comets kept ahead for much of the first lap before being overtaken on the windward leg. Newton shot into first, with Hugh (ILCA7) and Emily close behind. Emily got ahead of Hugh on the reach of the second lap before challenging Newton for the lead.

Elsewhere in the race, there was a close battle between the rest of the Lasers, of which 13 were out. Jess, Mike T & Darren, all in ILCA 7’s were having a close fight and were trying to catch the Roland (Solo) and Aileen.

Newton managed to stay ahead at the finish gun, Hugh got past Emily to finish 2nd. Emily was 3rd.

The Handicap Race had an eventful start, with almost all boats right on the start line. Chris K & Emily (Both ILCA6) were over at the start and had to go back. Mike T (ILCA7) got an early lead, followed by Newton & Mark B (Aero 7)

Elsewhere, Jess, Hugh & Darren were all having a close fight in the midfleet. The slower Solos and Comets were all keeping close to the front of the fleet, the faster boats unable to increase the distance between them.

On the 3rd lap, Mike T got stuck in a lull, and the rest of the fleet caught up.

Mark B crossed the line first, with Mike T 2nd & Darren 3rd.

On Handicap, Chris H was 1st, Newton 2nd & Darren 3rd.

The events continued after the race, as Emily Capsized in no wind (Mark would be proud)

10th August Summer Series Race 9

Very light winds for the Summer Series yesterday.

Just 9 boats made it out for the pursuit race. The Toppers of Lidia & Tatiana set of first. Tatiana stalled heading to the windward mark, but Lidia took advantage of what breeze there was and shot ahead, ending up two legs ahead of the rest of the fleet.

The rest of the fleet set off, with several boats stalling due to the lack of breeze. The wind filled in from behind, and most of the fleet overtook Lidia before starting their second lap.

Newton (Solo) finished first, with Hugh (ILCA7) 2nd & Chris H (Comet) 3rd.

There was a lot of action at the pin end of the Handicap race as the wind filled in.ost ended up with a good start, but wind shifts caught several boats out. Aileen (Comet) was first to the windward mark, followed by Hugh & Newton. Hugh overtook her at the following mark, but lost out on the subsequent leg. Newton overtook and stayed ahead for the remainder of the race, Hugh meanwhile managed to overtake Aileen again, finishing 2nd. Aileen & Chris H were having a close battle, although Aileen stayed ahead to finish 3rd.

On Handicap, Aileen finished first, with Chris H 2nd and Newton 3rd.
