Frostbite 8 – 29th January
With a light wind about 5-8 mph, Peter S set a short course 6p, 5p, Xs, 8p and back through the start.
There were 12 starters and at the end of the first lap Steve S (Solo) was first back through the line followed by the Lasers of Mark, James, Ken and Mike A. Next across the line was John W (Radial) with Ralph and Adrian both in Lasers in 7th and 8th places with Hadey (4.7) next and Dave I (Laser), Chris H (comet) and Rick (Laser) bringing up the rear.
On the second lap Ken passed James to move up to 3rd and Adrian moved up to 5th.Chris gained two places to move to 9th.
At the end of the third lap Mark had taken the lead from Steve and James had repassed Ken. Dave I had moved up two places passing Chris and Hadey to move to 9th.
On the fourth lap Ken was back ahead of James ! Ralph gained a place to move to 6th and Dave I gained another place to move up to 8th. Chris and Rick crossed the line together abreast.
At the end of the fifth and last lap Mark crossed the line in 1st place, but Ken had got past Steve to move up to 2nd with James and Adrian maintaining their places. At the back of the fleet there was a photo finish with six boats approaching the finish line abreast of one another!
In this melee Dave I just got the nod from Rick and John. Mike A discovered he had sailed the race without a transom bung when he had difficulty getting his boat out of the water!
The final positions on the water were –
1st Mark; 2nd Ken; 3rd Steve; 4th James; 5th Adrian; 6th Ralph.
On handicap the positions should be 1st Steve; 2nd Mark; 3rd Ken; 4th James with Chris moving up to 5th and Hadey up to 6th.
