It was very hot and sunny\nwith the temperature forecast to rise to 30 C in the afternoon. Unfortunately,\nthere was only a light wind, nominally 5-7mph from a SE direction, but it went\nup and down a fair bit and shifted around all over the place. With a series\nvictory in the bag, Newton volunteered to step up and run the race in the\nabsence of a scheduled SOOD. He set a box course with a Committee Boat start\nand the first mark as A (just past 9 but in the middle of the lake) then 5, 4,\nB (due East of 4) and back through the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pursuit Race<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 11 starters, the same as\nlast week, with the lack of wind putting some off and others busy on the Bank\nHoliday weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the end of the first\nlap Chris H (Comet) had caught Ron (Mirror) who started in front of him. Julian\nW (out in his brand new Solo \u2013 nice looking boat) was 3rd<\/sup>, with Jon\n(Laser) up to 4th<\/sup> and Chris A (Solo) 5th<\/sup> and Peter R\n(Enterprise) 6th<\/sup>. Mike A (Radial) came through in 7th<\/sup>\nplace about 3 minutes ahead of Sally & Nev (Leader) who were just ahead of\nlast starter Adrian (Rooster) and Rick and Lottie in Lasers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was slow going up to 5\nand a bit of a raft developed as boats tried to round the mark. Sally & Nev\ncoming up from behind spotted an opening and came right through the fleet to\nmove from 8th<\/sup> up to 2nd<\/sup> place which they held until the\ngun with only Chris H ahead of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The final order was \u2013 1st<\/sup>\nChris H; 2nd<\/sup> Sally & Nev; 3rd<\/sup> Ron; 4th<\/sup>\nJon; 5th<\/sup> Julian W; 6th<\/sup> Adrian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Handicap Race<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Julian W sat the second\none out so 10 started and first back across the line was Adrian well ahead of\nPeter R in 2nd<\/sup> place who in turn was clear of Sally & Nev in 3rd<\/sup>.\nChris H came through in 4th<\/sup> place with Chris A in 5th<\/sup> and\nJon 6th<\/sup>. Next along was Ron ahead of Mike A, Rick and Lottie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The boats were fairly evenly spaced out, so the only shuffles on the second lap were Jon passing Chris A, and Mike A passing Ron. It was much the same on the third lap, but Ron repassed Mike, who along with Rick and Lottie received the gun at the end of the lap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the last lap Chris H snatched 3rd<\/sup> place from Sally & Nev but everyone lese maintained station, so the final order was \u2013 <\/p>\n\n\n\n 1st<\/sup> Adrian; 2nd<\/sup> Peter R; 3rd<\/sup> Chris H; 4th<\/sup> Sally & Nev; 5th<\/sup> Jon; 6th<\/sup> Chris A<\/p>\n\n\n\n On corrected time the order changes to \u2013 1st<\/sup> Chris H; 2nd<\/sup>\nSally & Nev; 3rd<\/sup> Peter R; 4th<\/sup> Adrian; 5th<\/sup>\nRon; 6th<\/sup> Chris A<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thanks to Newton and the\nsmall OOD Team of Ben E and Brian M.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This was the last race of the Summer Series\nand the Pursuit Series was won by Newton & Ellen (RS200) with Karen and Jon\n(Lasers) tied for 2nd<\/sup> place.
