31 August Lex Cup 2015

Well last year was a bit of a wash out and this year was very similar, not much wind and a lot of rain !
Dave L was SOOD and if he set a course he didn’t record it for posterity !
Only 10 hardy souls braved the elements, well 11 actually as Sylvia and Peter were sharing a boat for a change by sailing their new RS 200 (look out Ellen & Newton)
David C (Laser) was first back through the line closely pursued by James (Laser) and Newton (Solo), then there was a gap back to Jon (Laser) and Adrian (Rooster – not a cock but a Laser with an oversize sail). Hadey (4.7) was next through in close company with Rick and David M in their Lasers.
Single handed Sally was in her Comet today and staying ahead of Sylvia and Peter who were trying to get to grips with the intricacies of their new RS 200.
By the second lap Newton had taken the lead from David C and Jon and Adrian had moved up one place to 3rd and 4th. There were no other movers in the rest of the fleet.
On the third lap Newton had increased his lead but there were no changes down to 6th place, but David M and Sally had got past Rick to move up to 7th and 8th places. At the end of this lap with the wind dropping like a lead balloon David L took pity on the rearguard and finished David M, Sally, Rick and Sylvia & Peter. Not sure if Sylvia or Peter was helming and not sure that they knew either !
Meanwhile dramatically at the front Newton had sailed into a hole and David and Jon came steaming past to take line honours.
The final positions on the water were 1st David C; 2nd Jon; 3rd Newton; 4th Adrian; 5th James and 6th Hadey, but Newton is likely to have the last laugh and take the cup on handicap.

Thanks to Dave L and the OOD Team Bill, Jon M and Keith.

30 August Summer Series 12

Well the last of the Summer Series already and we are still waiting for a the long hot spell.
With a light NE wind Dave P used a Tektona start with a first beat to 8, then up to 5, 9, 2 and back through the start.
There were 19 starters for the Pursuit Race including a new member, Andrew I (good to have you along Andrew).
It was pretty slow going all through the race and David C (Laser) got through to the front followed by Ellen & Newton (RS200) and Jon (Laser). Further down the fleet Sylvia and Andrew and Rod and James were having a close battle in their Lasers.
The final positions were 1st David C; 2nd Ellen & Newton; 3rd Jon; 4th Ian C (Supernova); 5th Andrew (Laser); 6th Sylvia (Laser).
The final positions in the Pursuit Series were 1st David C; 2nd Ian C; 3rd Jon; 4th Karen; 5th Ellen & Newton; 6th Hadey.

The wind was slightly better for the following Handicap Race, but there was not much planing going on !
No intermediate lap times were available but the usual suspects at the front were joined by newcomer Andrew and there was the usual battle of the midfield Laser pack. By the end of the race the fleet had split into two and the second half were finished one lap earlier, but they did not miss much !
The final positions were 1st Ian C (Supernova); 2nd David C (Laser); 3rd Newton & Ellen (RS 200); 4th Andrew (Laser); 5th Sylvia (Laser); 6th James (Laser).

The Handicap Series results were 1st Ian C; 2nd Newton & Ellen; 3rd Jon; 4th Karen; 5th David C; 6th Curtis.
Thanks to Dave P and the OOD Team of the Day – Keith and George

Cobley Series

Sundays Race 6th September

This Sunday is the start of the  autumn Cobley series. The club is also running a Leader event over the weekend, with racing on the water at the same time as Sunday’s club racing. To make running the races easier it has been decided to make Sunday’s race a 1 hour handicap race instead of a pursuit starting at 10.30 or shortly after. This will count toward the series as normal.

Autumn Series Format
The summer series format of two shorter races seems to have been generally successful. I have been asked if we can use the same format the autumn series. This could start from the second week. Please let me have your views either way.
