Unidentified Boats

We have been unable to identify the owners of the boats listed below…
Dear RSC Members,
We have been unable to identify the owners of the boats listed below. We would greatly appreciate if the owners of the boats would contact the Boat Park Marshall James Primrose, james_primrose@yahoo.co.uk , as soon as possible. Any boat still unidentified after 30th June 2015 risks proceedings leading to the sale or disposal of the boat under the Reading Sailing Club constitution and the 1977 Torts Act.
Notices have also been attached to boats in question.
The RSC committee would also like to remind all members that the club rules requires a valid boat park sticker which includes the member’s name to be clearly displayed on any boat kept in the RSC boat park.
Attached below are images of the following unidentified boats:

3rd June Gillette Series Race 9

Karen was pressed into service as SOOD as she had stitches in her arm and was banned from racing. This was a pity as it would have been a good night for her. Nice and sunny with a light 8 mph wind.
There were 25 starters and first back through the line was Steve S (Laser) followed by Ian (Supernova) then David C (Laser), Newton (Solo), then the five Lasers of Sylvia, Hugh, Dave L, Curtis and Mike T. Next along was Monica (Europe) closely followed by Paula (Laser), Chris A and Mike C (Solos) and Mike A (Lightning). Sally & Stuart in the Leader were the first in a double hander and they were being chased by Peter S (Byte), Ellen in the only Radial out tonight,  then the second double hander of Ralph & Joe in the Feva. At this stage Bob was the last Solo having a battle with Paul H (Supernova) and the third double hander of Dean & Nick in the Laser II just in front of Angela & Crew (put your name on the race sheet) in her Comet Duo and bringing up the rear were Tracey (Comet) and Chris S (Laser).
After two laps Ian had taken the lead from Steve, Sylvia had made up a place to 4th, Curtis had gained three places to 5th and Paula two places to 9th. Other significant movers were Bob up two place and Paul H up four places.
At the end of the third lap the five leaders held station, but Hugh had regained two places to 6th. Further down the fleet Ellen, Mike C, Mike A and Paul H were enjoying a good tussle.
The fourth lap saw David C move up to 2nd and Sylvia to 3rd and Newton had repassed Hugh to move to 6th. Dave L was sailing a steady race in 8th place being chased by Paula and Mike T who were having a close race. The most notable mover was Bob who gained four places up to 13th.
At the end of the fifth and last lap there was no change in position for the leading 10 boats, but Paul H, Bob and Ellen all gained one place.
The final positions on the water were 1st Ian; 2nd David C; 3rd Sylvia; 4th Steve S; 5th Curtis; 6th Newton.
On handicap this will change slightly with Newton’s Solo moving up to take 2nd place.

Thanks to Karen and the OOD team Mark, Graham and Stan (or that might be Sian !)

Youth, Junior and Oppie Sailors Race in Thames Valley Challenge

Saturday 6th June saw over 90 children racing in the Thames Valley Challenge hosted by Silver Wing Sailing Club. Among those were 10 of our Youth, Junior and Oppie Sailors.
The Thames Valley Challenge is a team racing event of six children in three Fevas per team and there were 14 teams competing.
A sunny, but blustery day saw 42 races sailed, and lots of capsizes.
Well done to Hadey and Kate, William and Thomas, Ben and Rhys whose Reading Team finished a very creditable 5th.
Well done also to Amy, Joe, Louis and Edward who combined forces with some children from Maidenhead Sailing Club to create the Redheads Team and finished 11th.
“Fun but scary at times” was the comment from our youngest sailor.
“Dad, Mum can we get a Feva XL” from two of them – they’ve been told to start saving their pocket money!
A great day was had by all the children and they did the club proud.
Follow the link to some great photos of the children in action

31 May Spring Series 12

This was a really windy day (about15 mph from the West) for the last race of the Spring Series.
Adrian (SOOD) put in No 1 as the first mark giving people the option of going through the inside of the island, before going up to 5P,then 3P, 8P, 6S, 7S.
There were only 12 starters including the two Toppers of brothers William and Rhys. Karen and Steve S opted for radial rigs, but the other Lasers went with the full sail.
William was first back round with Hadey (4.7) 2nd  and Newton & Ellen (Laser 2000) 3rd. Steve S had just got Past Rhys to come through in 4th with the Lasers of David C, Jon, Karen, Dave L and Richard S occupying the 7th to 10th places. Last starter Ian C (Supernova) was 11th and Alistair S (Laser)12th.
By the end of the second lap Newton & Ellen had taken the lead and kept it right to the finish. Steve S had moved up to 2nd with Hadey 3rd, David C 4th, Jon 5th and William 6th.
The third lap saw David C move up to 2nd and Jon to 3rd. The other movers were Ian up to 6th, Karen up to 7th, and Richard and Dave to 8th and 9th.
The first three boats maintained position on the fourth lap, but Ian moved up to 4th and Karen to 5th
Just before the gun Ian took a gamble and went inside the island in an attempt to get past Jon, and was deemed by the SOOD to be nearer to 1 and the finish so snatched 3rd place. Everyone else maintained position.
The final positions were 1st Newton & Ellen; 2nd David C; 3rd Ian C.

Thanks to Adrian and the OOD Team of Sylvia and James P (there must have been other members of the team but they did not write their names on the race sheet – but thanks to them anyway)

The overall series winner was David C with 2nd Newton & Ellen and 3rd Jon.

Summer Series

The Summer Series starts this Sunday.

By popular request the format is going to change from one 90 minute handicap race to two races consisting of a 35 minute pursuit race followed by a handicap race of approximately 45 minutes. The overall time taken to run the two races should be about the same as the one 90 minute race. The races will be scored as two separate series with their own trophies. Thus competitors can decide to enter either or both series.
The pursuit race will start at 10.30 with the 5 minute warning hoot at 10.25. The handicap race will start as soon as the positions from the pursuit race have been taken and boats have had time to return to the start area. For those wanting to turn up for the second race only this won’t be before 11:10. The new start times for the 35 minute pursuit can be found on the website under racing and will also be on the notice board. Please note these are much shorter than the 90 minute pursuit, e.g the Laser is 7.5 minutes, so you will need to be on the water sooner.
Any questions then please ask me.
