Campsail Aug 2009

On Saturday 4th of July, it was the camp-sail event at the sailing club. It was great fun and was enjoyed by all present. It kicked off at around 2pm and people could just go out for a leisurely (but windy) sail with friends and family. After that there was a treasure hunt that was mainly done in kayaks by the kids. It was brilliant yet hard work. After that kids played in the water until the light began to fade and the barbeque got going. The food was soon ready and everyone tucked in. However, halfway through the meal we got an unexpected guest...The mysterious monster of Reading Sailing Club!!! At first all you could see was ripples but then it started jumping and flapping around (it must have been attracted to the smell of the delicious food). After the meal some of the children went out for an evening cruise on the rescue boat before returning to the warm campfire. We sat around that until midnight telling story's, jokes and there was even a talent show!!! It was a peaceful and calm night although everyone was up by 8...Fifteen minutes later; people were out in canoes getting wet. Not long after, breakfast was ready: bacon butties and tea. None of this could have happened, however, if it was not for Simon Bray. So on behalf of everyone at the event - THANKYOU...

Race Training April 2008

Race training
Race-training day on Saturday was a great success in spite of difficult weather; in fact the strong winds only added to the excitement! The team in the safety boat were kept busy during the morning as boats started to capsize as soon as they set sail. Ciaran even had the opportunity to try rudderless sailing when his tiller snapped - luckily he was pointing in the right direction at the time and managed to make it back to the jetty without assistance. For the first attempt at a race-start Kris was the first and only sailor to make it across the start line. By the afternoon this situation had improved and everyone had a chance to brush up on their heavy weather sailing and even learn the basics of upwind race strategy.
