Reading Sailing Club

A fleet of 18 Boats contested the 2007 Reading Sailing club Solo Open on 29th April. Those who made the journey were rewarded with excellent weather, a force 2-3 from the East and one of the closest open meetings on record.

In the first race Mike Hobin (Oxford) and Dan Goodman (Kingsmead) broke away with Goodman eventually taking the gun by some distance. Shifting conditions allowed Clive Evans (Reading) and last years winner Ian Ayres (Kingsmead) to catch Hobin to take second and third respectively.
The second race was affected by a large wind shift at the start. Hobin took the lead early on chased by Steve Sharp (Reading), Steve Jones (Littleton) and Will Loy (Reading). Hobin won this race from Evans, who piped Ayres on the line for second. Loy secured what was ultimately to be an important 4th place.

With two different winners so far and Evans and Ayres having two good finishes the meeting was wide open. Simon Corper (Reading) took the lead from Ayres and Loy and these three took a good lead. Evans recovered from a hilarious broken toestrap incident to join Hobin and eventually Goodman in the chasing pack. Ultimately Loy secured the race win and second overall on count back. Ayres second place saw him finish in an unlucky fourth overall despite having never finished that low down all day. Hobin's fourth spot was enough for third overall on count back from Ayres. With results going his way Evans secured the event with two second places have not lead a race all day!
