Notices:

  • A key to the club house is available from Dave Portus if you would like one. £15 deposit. See him at the club or contact via email bosun@readingsc.org.uk.
  • Power boat users training sessions will resume next season, keep an eye on the club notice board for dates. Ken Seymour is our resident expert.
  • Reminder to all SOOD's
  • Recently the number of boats racing regularly has increased to around 25 each race. With this in mind could all SOOD's please give their best efforts to the following points to ensure the best possible racing and minimise the chances of boat collisions.

  • Get some of your team to help launch and recover boats if possible.
  • Make sure the start line is long enough for the amount of boats competing, better too long than not long enough.
  • Put enough bias on the start line so that not all boats want to start at one end, too many times it's everybody at the pin end.
  • Try to create a long beat to the first mark to help split the fleet up when they get there.
  • Use "Tektona" to start races from if the wind is from the south or the east
  • Be ready to use the individual and general recall flags along with the hooter, especially when starting handicap races.
  • Be aware if any oppies are rigging up for pursuit racing, as they start at - 15
  • If in any doubt please don't be afraid to consult with other SOOD's before setting the course or start line.
  • Please don't moor support boats on the jetty's that sailing boats want to launch from or land on after the race.
  • Thanks for your efforts RSC Commitee

  • Pirates Club
  • Pirates Halloween

Pirates Halloween got off to a scary start with the club house duly decorated with skeleton, ghouls and loads of pumpkins....... many thanks Tracey and Amy.

Alice and Louise did some great carving well done girls. The sailing started with Ian and Ricardo giving the morning arrivals some great spectator sport, screaming up and down the lake with their large purple, right colour for the day, spinnaker flying....and then capsized in front of the clubhouse to roars of applause....!!!

Meanwhile Barbara was busy in the galley counting sausages and burgers while the M brothers were busy sorting fireworks and building a bonfire.
Lots of Pirates took the waters with some oldies as well....good to see you having fun in the comet Gary. Paul was on hand in the safety boat but the intrepid Pirates with their much improved sailing hardly needed him. Good to have you there Paul.

Things really got under way with the BBQ being lit and ably manned by Rupe and Mike - great idea guys. Then the pans of chilli arrived, some hot, some very very hot....wow Linds and everyone tucked in, with mountains of pasta as well, though some of the late arrivals didn't get much to eat - sorry Simon, Andrew and co. Everyone got into the spirit of the day with masks, balloons and scary costumes....you little devil Edward...you scared all the oldies 'bigtime...'
Katie won the apple bobbing at a remarkable 15 seconds.
Then it was time for the bonfire and a truly amazing firework display, worthy of Henley Regatta - another 'Moore' epic....fantastic.....followed by sparklers for the youngsters.

It was a great day enjoyed by all - well done everyone for all your efforts. - The next Pirate event...

Pirates Valentines - Coming up in February, date to be arranged.
